Visiting & Calling Patients at Chestatee Regional Hospital

To keep Chestatee Regional Hospital (CRH) safe and minimize risk of 2009 novel
H1N1 (swine flu) infection, Chestatee Regional is restricting hospital visitors during the influenza season.

What to expect when visiting friends and family during the flu season at Chestatee Regional Hospital

•If you are Experiencing Flu Like Symptoms or have known exposure to someone with the flu, please do not plan a visit to patient at the hospital. (Cough, Congestion or Fever)
•Children under the age of 16 are asked to not visit the hospital. However, if a child’s visit would be beneficial to the emotional well-being of a patient, they will be allowed.
•To accommodate patients in Maternity Services, CRH will allow well siblings of newborns to visit in their mother’s room. A nurse will take the child’s temperature to confirm no fever is present.
•Foam hand cleaner is available throughout the facility for frequent hand sanitizing
•We encourage you to protect our patients and other visitors by covering your mouth when coughing or sneezing.

Please note: Additional policies restricting visitors may be put in place on certain specialty units

In recognition of the patient's need for proper rest, and in an effort to reduce the spread of disease, the following patient visitation rules have been established.

Guidelines:
1. Visitors preferably shall be 16 years of age or older.

2. In order to prevent congestion and noise which would disturb others, there should be no more than two (2) visitors per patient at any given time.

3. There may be occasions when proper nursing care, the condition of the patient, or treatment(s) may require that visiting be limited or suspended.

4. There may be times, due to the patient's condition, when a relative may be requested to stay with a patient throughout the night. This will be allowed with the concurrence of the attending physician and the nursing supervisor on duty.

5. Visitors should not congregate in the hallways.

6. Visitors waiting for a patient in surgery should be asked to wait in a designated place until seen by the surgeon.

7. Extended and/or expanded visiting is allowed for the good of the patient, and in response to family psycho-social needs. Examples of such situations are as follows:

a. Prior to, and/or immediately after surgery;

b. When a patient is critically ill;

c. When a specific family need has been identified; and/or

d. At the hospital’s discretion, on major holidays, as defined by the hospital, extended visitation may be permitted.

The participants and the duration of extended visiting shall be determined jointly by the attending physician and the nursing supervisor on duty.

Rules:
1. Visitors must be appropriately dressed upon entering the hospital.

a. Proper footwear is required at all times.

b. All visitors must wear shirts/blouses at all times.
Visitors must observe hospital smoking regulations.

2. Visitors must behave appropriately at all times.

3. Visitors must not violate a physician’s prescribed diet by bringing food or beverage to patients.

4. Visitors must abide by pertinent hospital policies, rules and regulations, as requested by hospital staff.
